1950 FIFA World Cup, Brazil
The organisation of the 1950 World Cup meant that there was not an official "Final" tie. Instead, the four group winners: Sweden, Spain, Uruguay and hosts Brazil played a round robin final group.
Results in previous games meant that Brazil needed only to draw in their final match against Uruguay to justify their position as favourites and lift the Cup. For the astounding crowd of 199,000 at the Maracana, defeat was unthinkable.
Friaca put Brazil ahead in the 47th minute, and home victory looked ever more likely until the under-rated Uruguayans turned their world cup upside down. Schiaffino equalised after 66 minutes, then Ghiggia silenced the huge crowd with his 79th minute goal - the winner!
